This doxology does not only belong to the prayer that precedes it, but also to every glorious privilege and blessing spoken of the first three chapters. Partakers of His promise in Christ: The truth of this mystery means that Gentiles are now full partakers of His promise. (See notes Romans 8:16; 8:17; 8:18; 8:19; 8:20; 8:21; 8:22; 8:23). That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. The disciple's success was a preview of the ultimate falling of Satan from heaven like lightning and so was descriptive of a still future event when he will be cast out of heaven once and for all by Michael and his angels. 2 And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he should not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time. The love of Jesus has height. And the dragon and his angels waged war, 8 and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. That is how certain the inheritance associated with "hope of our calling" is for believers and why Paul is praying for the saints to know beyond a shadow of a doubt about this truth so that they might lay hold of it by faith and might walk in the light (enlightened in their heart, the center of their being) of this life transforming truth. Paul knows that as a man thinks in his heart, his spiritual interior, will determine how he walks. To come to any understanding of the dimensions of God's love, we must come to the cross. But it was not given to only him by revelation. c. Which is your glory: Paul was being used, and probably in a greater way than he ever imagined. I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed (why not?) Let's illustrate using a well known event, the crucifixion. b. Only God can do this, because He can do far beyond our ability to think or ask. God saved us (See study of sozo, the verb for saved). Paul says “for this reason I bow my knees…”. It also must be made known. That now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known: God is a Being of infinite wisdom and glory, and He wants His creatures to know His great and manifold wisdom. My tribulations for you: Paul wrote the Letter to the Ephesians from prison, and it is useful to remember why Paul was in prison. 12 For this reason (what reason?) Listened to the Message of Truth, the Gospel of their salvation and they believed it. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. "This statement settles the question once for all concerning the existence of the church, the body of Christ, in and during the Old Testament dispensations.
